Urban Matters aims to develop wereldwijken:neighbourhoods that are a completely different world compared to the slums prevailing now.

To achieve tangible and timely results we will work in three cities in Africa and Central America, where Cordaid already has local partners and experience.

Cape Town, legislative capital of South Africa

San Salvador, the capital of El Salvador

Kisumu, the third largest city in Kenya

The slums in these cities are so many and vast, that we need to focus on specific neighbourhoods.In Cape Town we have selected the slum of Philippi and within this wider area a number of specific suburbs.In El Savador and Kisumu specific neighbourhoods are currently being selected.

Other slums residents will also benefit from Urban Matters. The results of our work in the focusneighbourhoods will be shared with other slums in Cape Town, San Salvador, Kisumu and the wider world.
